CONSULTATION & AFTERCARE McTimoney physical therapy and sports massage work alongside conventional veterinary care, regular visits from a dental technician, correct shoeing and saddle fitting. Please note that it is a legal requirement under the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966) that veterinary permission is obtained prior to any other practitioner treating your animal. An initial visit can last up to 90 minutes. A variety of techniques are used to assess each individual, including taking a detailed history of the animal, a static conformation assessment and evaluating the animal’s gait, during which owners may be required to lunge or ride. An assessment of an animal’s tack, harness or collar may also be necessary. A variety of techniques are used during treatment, including:
Following treatment you will be given a Tailored Aftercare Plan that will be designed to help both you and your animal get the most from each treatment, and allow you to continue the rehabilitation process with the use of appropriate stretching and exercise regimes. The animal will usually require a period of rest and/or limited exercise for a few days following treatment, again to maximise treatment benefits. Some animals may require several treatments, depending upon the nature of the problem. It is however, recommended that all animals receive regular check-ups to maintain optimum performance and health, and as a preventative measure. The Port Lewis Saddle Fit System An assessment of saddle fit can be carried out, in relation to symptoms presenting and palpation findings, by examining the condition of your horse’s musculoskeletal frame and saddle, and using an impression pad. For a thorough and accurate assessment to be made you will need to ride for approximately 30 minutes. If you have concerns over the fit of your saddle an assessment can be arranged free of charge during a scheduled treatment. Prior notification of a saddle fit assessment is appreciated. |
